Brass Works
CornetBarcarolle - Bb Cornet and Piano - duration 4:30
This work was Highly Commended in the sounz brass composition competition 2020 In writing Barcarolle (composed for the Invitational Slow Melody Competition 2020) I was inspired by the wonderfully lyrical and expressive nature of the cornet. The lilting quality of the piano accompaniment first suggested to me the title Barcarolle (also Barcarole), a traditional folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers. And the title seemed to fit the piece well as it includes several short, original folk-like tunes for the cornet. The music encompasses the complete range of the cornet. - Trumpet in Bb and piano in one movement Trumpet Sonatina No.2 - duration 10:30 - Trumpet in Bb and piano in four movements Fanfare for Two Trumpets - duration 1:12 for two trumpets in Bb (commissioned for the Bernard Brown Memorial Concert Birmingham, UK, 1986) French HornFlugelHornEuphonium![]() Rondo - New Work - for euphonium & piano - duration 5:11 This single movement work was composed for the invitation slow melody section of the brass band national championships 2025. The work begins with a simple motif played by both instruments before an accompaniment figure is established on the piano over which the euphonium plays a simple melody, which is then developed via different variations. Pedal notes abound throughout the work. At one point the music turns into a waltz displaying a greater range on the euphonium. The opening idea returns to close the work.
